Phil is a haematologist and researcher in immune diseases affecting platelets. He leads the National Platelet Research and Referral Centre based in Canberra, working closely with leading edge scientists in the field of platelet biology and immunology to unlock the mechanisms of platelet destruction and better understand the diverse outcomes of patients with ITP: from bleeding to clotting, and response to failure after the same ITP therapies. He leads clinical and translational research in immune haematology in Canberra and is on the international stage representing Australian efforts to better diagnose and treat these diseases.

He is passionate about improving outcomes for patients with ITP, long suffering fans of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, the Wallabies, and the NSW State of Origin team (practically every one since Gus stopped coaching them).

Basically, he roots for the underdog.
